Fishing on Red Lake has been spotty with every one catching a few walleyes and some catching a lot of fish. Under these conditions, a lot of fishing reports can sometimes lead to overcrowding.
To all our customers who have fished with us this season, we thank you and hope you had a great time.
Just a reminder that there is still time to enjoy the Red Lake adventure with us. This year’s season runs through Feb. 28 and houses are still available. The lake access will also close on February 28.

Changing Weather Walleyes
Wednesday January 13, 2010
The fishing last week started very slowly with bitter cold temperatures. Those fishermen that worked for comatose walleyes were rewarded with nice catches but nothing was on fire. As the week progressed into the weekend the steadily warming temps and falling barometer started to turn the fish on resulting in nice stringers of walleye and also a couple of big +40” pike being caught and released.
Jigging with angel eyes or buck shot rattle jigs with contrasting colors of body and hook took the majority of the catch. Rattle wheels after dark also brought in a few keepers with red hooks and fat heads being the meal ticket.
The warm weather will turn these fish on. Come fish with us and make a memory.

The cold front is finally easing! All the fishermen have a story to tell (-40 degrees F) setting a record in Bemidji of -37 degrees F, compared to the old standard of -31 degrees F. This was life threatening cold!
The walleyes felt it also, slowing down to a typical Red Lake high pressure attitude. Nice limits were taken from 11 to 12 ft. on this light bite using little or no hardware, just plain red hooks on rattle wheels or dead sticks with the occasional eye coming from a small jigging spoon with the electronics on zoom.
With some change in pressure coming Wednesday evening the bite should get more aggressive as Tuesday proved with more people getting fish on the jigging spoons.
As I look out on this beautiful expanse, I can only wonder where all the fishermen are? Maybe on the computer instead of on the lake. Come enjoy some of winter’s wonderful solitude away from the crazy crowd, catch some fish and make a memory. We still have openings, call for reservations.

New Season '09 - '10. Ready, Set, Fish!
Thursday December 24, 2009
The ice season is finally here! Our road to the big reef is looking great with 15” of solid dark ice. We’re letting half ton vehicles out at this time. The fish houses are in great locations to take advantage of the best structure on Red Lake.
The walleyes are biting in everything from 9 ft. to 13 ft. Todd Torson caught a nice 41” pike on a smelt with a tip-up. There seems to be quite a few perch on the camera as well.
We need more fishermen to take advantage of our new fish houses. This next week will get very busy, but we still have vacancies, so call for availability.

Warmer Weather = Aggressive Bite
Wednesday February 11, 2009
With temps in the 30’s and consistent barometric pressure of the last few days, the walleyes have become more aggressive. It’s nice to see fish in the electronics that actually want to bite ! Every one had a nice meal on the ice then finished their limits before doing some catch and release of both walleyes and nice pike. A few big crappies have also showed up, but they have been a bonus, not a staple. The fishing should get better as the weather continues to improve.

Mid-winter Walleyes
Thursday January 29, 2009
The fishing has slowed from great to good. With the snow covered ice lowering the amount of sunlight available to the fish, the oxygen levels have also decreased. This has caused the fish to become more lethargic.
Our fishermen have managed to consistently catch limits of eaters, but the big early ice flurries have become rare. The bite calls for plain, low impact presentations such as colored plain hooks with smaller fat head minnows. Someone needs to be jigging a rattle jig all the time to attract fish with the realization that these fish will most likely hit the dead sticks with the plain hook and minnow. Those parties that fish hard and pay attention to their electronics will out fish more passive fishermen, so have fun and enjoy the winter season, fish hard and enjoy the lake’s bounty.

Long Weekend Walleye Dinners !
Monday January 19, 2009
Despite the recent cold snap (-40) then warming to +20 with pressure changes all along the spectrum, the Walleyes continue to be active, especially during low light conditions. Our anglers loved the change in temps, with many using tip-ups for some nice pike. Decent sized sucker minnows from Hillman’s Store seemed to be the desired bait.
Walleyes are more finicky since the cold snap, but those anglers that work for their fish continue to see 10 to 20 per day with lots of slot fish. The dead stick out fishes active presentations with glow red or plain hooks and fatheads being most consistent. One rig in each house should always be jigging as the movement seems to draw the fish in and then they hit the dead stick.
We still have houses available in February. Rememeber your Valentine with a weekend on Upper Red Lake with Red Lake Adventures!

Frigid cold, Walleyes hot
Wednesday January 14, 2009
Upper Red Lake still continues to amaze me, even after all these years. With the temps at -35 degrees, the fish continue their agressive bite. The barometer is rising and falling like a yo-yo, but the Walleyes stay consistently active.
We had one party that caught over 100 Walleyes in a 24 hour period. Throw in a couple of big crappies and a handful of perch and you have a great fishing adventure. Thanks for the tip, guys, but you fished hard and deserved those results. But my helper appreciates the $$.
The Walleys are continueing their winter migration out to deeper water with almost every classic presentation taking fish.
Stay warm, tight lines.
RLA.
